Voltes V - Soul Of Shogokin
Featured is a 2006 Edition of the Voltes V. It is also called Chōdenji Machine Voltes V, Chōdenji Mashīn Borutesu Faibu or Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V. This is from a popularly known Japanese anime that was shown in the Philippines in the late 1970's. It was dubbed in English and was aired in the Philippines by GMA 7. The series was shown every Friday night at 6:00 PM and kids were expected to be in front of their TVs instead of playing outside. My mom would turn the volume of the TV UP once the theme starts playing. That would be the cue for me, my playmates and other kids in the neighborhood to come to our house. We had fun watching it together and singing along with my friends..
The original toy robots that came out during that time was very expensive and only a handful of kids were able to get one. There are other anime contemporary robots like Daimos, Mazinger Z, Grendaizer, etc. However, Voltes V is hands down the favourite.
I remember singing the theme song after watching the episode as we meet outside to discuss what we have seen. Only recently that we came across the lyrics and found out we have invented most of the words LOL.
Anyway, when Lito saw this at the recent Toy Force event at the Ajax Convention Centre, he said he had to buy it. His classmate from '86 got one for PHP 25,000 and it was only CAD 350 here. Luckily the seller was also Pinoy so He was able to get it a little cheaper. You know, it is really hard not to ask for a discount ("Tawad") which worked.
Now, after 30++ years, He finally owned one of his favourite toys to play with. Good thing, the kids don't know it, so he can only play it with me. If it is only me to decide, after the volt in, I will just put it in our glass display cabinet LOL!
